GuardRite® Strap Barrier System Frequently Asked Questions

Product Basics

Q: What is the GuardRite Strap Barrier System?
A: The GuardRite Strap System is a restraining strap barrier system that can be used to separate and define large work areas, long walkways and interior loading docks. Straps can span up to 60’ between posts. The straps can be easily removed for unobstructed access.

Q: Where and when should the GuardRite Strap Barrier be used?
A: The GuardRite Strap can be used wherever you need to separate and define large work areas, long walkways or interior loading docks. It will provide an economic alternative to traditional steel guard rail. Also consider the Strap Barier System in those areas where unobstructed access will be needed. It provides an effective visual and physical barrier to keep people and materials in the right place.

Q: What are the base components of the GuardRite Strap Barrier System?
A: The GuardRite Strap System is made up of the following components:
Single Post: 48” tall x 5” x 5” x 3/16” with a 10” x 10” x 1/2” thick base plate.
Reinforcement Post: Same as single post above with two 21” long, connecting, bolt-together 3” x 3” steel arms.
Note: Single post and reinforcement post together create a double post, which is the standard design for stopping fork trucks. When we refer to a double post this is what we mean.
Double Strap Restraining Kit: Two 6” high straps with two tensioner assemblies, latch bar and latch bracket, and tension bar.
Single Strap Restraining Kit: One 6” high strap with two tensioner assemblies and tension bar.
Manual Storage System to allow straps to be neatly organized out of harm’s way when unobstructed access between posts is needed.
* Four (4) anchor bolts are supplied with each post.

Q: Why is there a Standard and a Light-Duty design?
A: The Light-Duty design is a pedestrian barrier only and uses single posts. The standard design utilizes double posts and is able to stop a 10,000 lb. fork truck traveling at 4 mph.

Q: What are the available lengths of the straps?
A: There are six different lengths of straps, varying by 10’ increments to protect clear openings from 10’ to 60’. The actual straps are 5’ longer than the designated openings. If the clear opening is greater than an even 10’ length order the next longer strap to be sure you have enough. Excess strap can be cut and burned to prevent fraying at time of installation or can be simply rolled up on the storage system.

Q: What hardware is supplied with the base GuardRite Strap System components?
A: All necessary hardware to assemble the system is supplied.
Each post is supplied with four 3/4” x 5 1/4” anchors for securing post to the floor.
Each reinforcement post is supplied with hardware to attach connecting arms between posts and to anchor post to the floor.
Each strap restraining kit is supplied with the hardware to attach the tensioner assemblies and latch brackets as required.
Each storage system is supplied with hardare to attach to a steel post.

Impactability

Q: What is the capability of the GuardRite Strap System in stopping fork trucks?
A: When using double posts and double straps, the system will stop 10,000 pounds traveling at 4 mph without damage to the straps or posts. The straps will deflect varying amounts based on strap length. Please see deflection chart on the brochure.

Q: How many impacts can the straps withstand?
A: The testing that we conducted has shown that the barrier can withstand over 10 full impacts before requiring replacement. Straps showing fraying should be replaced.

Q: When you look at the straps after impact, it sometimes looks like they are stretched. How do you retension the straps?
A: The straps can be easily retensioned using the tension bar supplied with the product.

Applications

Q: What if the straps will be permanently mounted and I don’t need the storage system?
A: When ordering simply don’t order the storage system.

Q: Can the latch bracket be located at either end of the system?
A: Yes. The latch bracket is universal and can be installed at either end. The storage system can also be installed at either end.

Q: Can I create an “L” shaped configuration of the system for a 90 degree turn?
A: Yes. When using a standard double-post design, simply order an additional reinforcement post and install it in the desired direction.
When using a light-duty single post design, the single post becomes a corner post and the straps are simply installed in the desired directions.

Q: Can I “daisy-chain” the system from post to post?
A: Yes. The standard design requires a double post at each segment to maintain the ability to stop fork lifts. The light-duty design can use the single posts at each segment.

Q: When would I use a single strap restraining kit?
A: The single strap restraining kit used with single posts provides a very economical method for defining and separating large work areas or long walkways. The double strap restraining kits can also be used with single posts.

Q: Do I need to provide any additional information when ordering the GuardRite Strap System?
A: It may be helpful to use a grid sheet when laying out the application to assist in ordering the correct quantities and lengths of components.

Installation and Operation

Q: What features allow for easy installation, relocation or reconfiguration of the system?
A: The posts are installed the same as steel GuardRite. Reinforcement posts, strap restraining kits, and storage systems are all easily assembled at the time of installation. Because straps span up to 60’, the number of posts to install will often be less than steel GuardRite.

Q: How long will installation take?
A: For one double post system (a total of four posts and one double strap restraining kit) the GuardRite Strap installation will take an estimated 3 hours. We estimate that bolting all components together will take roughly 1 hour. Drilling and securing steel posts to the floor will take roughly 1 hour. The remaining time will be cleanup and tensioning of straps.

Q: How easy is it to remove the straps when access is needed to the opening between the posts?
A: It will require about 5-10 minutes to remove the straps. There is a tensioner bar supplied with each unit which allows the tension to be removed and reapplied to the straps at the tensioner assemblies. Once the tension is removed, the straps can be moved out of the opening. Double strap kits include a latch bar that the straps attach to; this makes it easy to keep the straps together when moving them into or out of the opening. Please view the operation video for more details.

Q: How is the single strap restraining kit designed?
A: The single strap kits use tensioner assemblies at both ends. There is no latch bar or latch bracket. The strap is sewn in a closed loop at one end, and that end is slipped over the tensioner during installation.
